Long-term stewardship to create positive change
As a passive shareholder
we ensure that Ingka Group remains stable, independent and well-managed, and its values remain intact.
This stable ownership
enables Ingka Group to make long-term, values-based decisions, free from external pressures or short-term demands.
Our long-term stewardship
allows Ingka Group to thrive, while also generating the resources to fund initiatives that create lasting, positive impact.
How we are structured
In 1982, Ingvar Kamprad transferred ownership of Ingka Group to INGKA Foundation to secure its long-term independence and values. INGKA Foundation is legally and operationally separate from Ingka Group and is not involved in its management or supervision.
Ingvar Kamprad also established two additional foundations: the IKEA Foundation and IMAS Foundation. While all three foundations share a common charitable purpose – to create a better everyday life for the many people – each operates as an independent legal entity with its own governance, management and distinct role. No individual is entitled to the assets of any of the foundations.

We generate the resources that enable lasting, positive impact
INGKA Foundation receives dividends from Ingka Group. These are transferred to IMAS Foundation, which specialises in creating long-term returns on financial assets. This structure helps us secure the long-term funding capacity to support the IKEA Foundation, enabling it to carry out its mission to fight global warming for the many people.
